(11,075 posts)there's no reason why anyone in this country should be without food, shelter or healthcare! When someone needs a hand, you give it to them ... because next time, you may be the one who needs it. The term "working poor" should NOT even exist! If you have a full-time job, that job should pay enough for you to eat 3 meals a day, sleep in a warm bed and see a doctor when you need to. Those things are NOT luxury items - they are the basic necessities of life and everyone is entitled to them!

(27,985 posts)I actually think that governments main role should be as a social safety net and that not every person can have a Horatio Alger story but it doesn't mean they should have to eat cat food. But then, I'm a Democratic Socialist, so of course, that's what I would expect of a government.
