Romney Slurs the Greatest Americans

Romney says that anyone who pays more than the bare minimum Federal tax allowable under the tax code is not fit to be President.

Muir: So from what you have released and from what we have seen we know that there was one year when you paid about 13.9% tax rate. Can we clear this up by asking a simple yes or no question? Was there ever any year when you paid lower than 13.9%?

Romney: I haven’t calculated that. I’m happy to go back and look but my view is I’ve paid all the taxes required by law. From time to time I’ve been audited as happens I think to other citizens as well and the accounting firm which prepares my taxes has done a very thorough and complete job pay(ing) taxes as legally due. I don’t pay more than are legally due and frankly if I had paid more than are legally due I don’t think I’d be qualified to become president. I’d think people would want me to follow the law and pay only what the tax code requires.

But people who pay the true bare minimum under the tax code because they don't make much money are, though apparently eminently qualified to be President, some sort of parasitic non-persons.

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

So if you pay no income taxes on a lot of money you're a hero. But if you pay no income tax because you don't make much money you are scum. It's the tax avoidance that makes you a fine person. Anybody can pay no taxes because they're poor... where's the sport in that?

And, for the record, Mitt has claimed that he has paid no income tax the last two years. In a January debate, Romney criticized a proposal by Newt Gingrich to eliminate capital gains taxes—“Under that plan, I’d have paid no taxes in the last two years.” (http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/09/mitt-romney-is-the-47-according-to-mitt-romney.php)

So Romney claimed in a debate that he paid no income tax the last two years, only capital gains taxes. Either he was simply lying, or he is one of the parasitic 47%... "people who pay no income tax." (He was lying in the debate, as usual, since he did have some regular income in those two years.)
