Texas bar owner fighting shutdown: 'We are going to starve'

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott last week order bars in the state to reclose. But that's not stopping the owner of a bar in Odessa from welcoming customers during the July 4 holiday weekend.

"The government has no business telling us how to deal with our health. That's what we're here for," Gabrielle Ellison, owner of Big Daddy Zane's, told CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Wednesday.

Several bar owners in the state, including Ellison, are suing Abbott after he ordered bars to reclose June 26 as the state's number of Covid-19 cases skyrocketed.

Ellison's customers "also have their rights," she said. "I'm not going to take theirs away from them like mine are being taken away right now."

The right to infect others. If you could keep the coronavirus among yourselves I'd say go for it. Unfortunately we all know it doesn't work that way.

You can understand why they would be angry and freaked out - they don't want to go bankrupt.

They have GOP government.

4. And the LAST thing they would do is blame the GOP and side with DNC to get help, probably.

The only way to get help is to force the GOP to do the right thing!

It's not unreasonable to ask businesses to stay closed if you give financial support to the business owners and employees while they have no source of income. Skip that step, leave them with no source of income, and of course they're angry. They have to eat and keep a roof over their heads.

It's a big problem, but the real BOOM will hit at the end of this month as the tiny remaining safety net goes out from under millions all at the same time. If donnie thinks he's in election trouble today... just wait. It's going to be so ugly.

I'm sorry to hear this but you need to be blaming your republican task masters in charge of the government there in TX for failing to protect you and your customers from the raging CV epidemic. Maybe next time you vote, you'll think differently?

There's $500 billion that was authorized by Congress to disburse and help small business people, but the administration has turned that money into a political football (shocker!) and said that taxpayers aren't entitled to know where that money is going. Instead of uniting people during this crisis, the Trump administration is using it to set people against one another. So, in their desperation and extremity, Gabrielle Ellison and other small businesses will risk serious illness with lifelong consequences and even death because of Trump's incompetence.

Be sure you're mad at the right people, Ms. Ellison.

11. We gave a bunch of money to some people

but we don’t know who. That’s a secret

1 trillion could have provided 20k for 50 million small businesses. Or could have deferred rent, mortgages, and real estate taxes for many more since it would essential have been a loan of sorts.

We don’t even know if the people complaining got some of the money.

The economic problem is real. Reopening without adequate precautions such as testing, contact tracing, mandatory distancing and masks just prolonged the problem.

They should have kept bars closed in any case.

White House issues memo requiring staff to wear masks in West Wing, CNBC, 5/11/20
... The directive from the White House management office was laid out in a memo to staffers Monday afternoon, NBC reported. ... The memo also asked staff members to avoid visiting the West Wing, where the Oval Office is located, unless it is necessary, the sources told NBC.

Something to keep in mind when some fuckhead harasses you about wearing a mask -- if they're so ineffective or the Covid19 is just a hoax, or if only wimps or “Democrat Islamo-Maoists" wear them, then ask the fuckhead why does your fearless leader require everyone near him to wear a mask? Why is he wimpifying his staff -- and by extension himself?
