As the ads boycott grows, Mark Zuckerberg shows no sign of backing down.
"My guess is that all these advertisers will be back on the platform soon enough" the Facebook chief executive has said.
Campaigners accuse the tech firm of being too slow and reluctant to remove some hateful content.
But Zuckerberg added: "We're not going to change our policies or approach on anything because of a threat to a small percent of our revenue."
The comments were made to Facebook staff at a private meeting last Friday, and were subsequently leaked to the Information news site.
The social network has confirmed they are accurate and also announced a fresh development: its chief executive is to meet the organisers of the boycott - Stop Hate for Profit.

(65,042 posts)...that talk was already bouncing around the halls of marketing & finance departments.
I know of 4 such companies personally, and rumors about several others.
They have been increasingly questioning the ROI on that spend for more than a few years.
I still have my connections!

(95,247 posts)I am probably a poor example, but I can say with certainty I have never purchased anything as a result of exposure to an internet advertisement.
I am equally certain I have been moved by television and print advertisements, at least in the past, and some of those effects linger in current purchases.
I find internet advertising intrusive and annoying, and those they seem to think are targeted to me the most annoying of all.

(6,395 posts)The companies involved are probably directing their analytics teams right now to see how much of the sales drop vs. the marketing dollars they spend. And if it isn't worth it, they will either not return or severely scale back.
He may be the genius who built the platform, but his business sense doesn't seem to be there.

(10,156 posts)He didn't build it at all. He stole the idea from another person. Zuckerfuck has always been a shady POS.

(65,042 posts)He may mean the current drop outs, but advertising is anything but small
In 2018 & 2019, the ads pulled 98.2-98.5% of total revenue.
This attitude might alienate other advertisers, and that small % might not be so small, later.
