"American Autumn", documentary on Occupy, by Dennis Trainor Jr. (link porovided)
On Tuesday night I went to a screening of "American Autumn", the documentary by Dennis Trainor Jr. about the Occupy movement. It is an objective film that brings out many points about Occupy and explains a lot about the movement.
One of the more interesting aspects was how Occupy has gone "underground" in some aspects and how the movement fits the mold of how we, as a nation, have always viewed ourselves as pretty independent. We saw a lot of this during the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam protests. (Sadly, we are still fighting many of these fights again today)
One thing we "elders" can do is teach the youth of this nation, and the world, what we've learned from the past, those of us who have had stakes in the past movements know what works and what doesn't, we have a vast pool of knowledge and experience we can draw from and pass on...at the same time, we can learn from our younger brothers and sisters about the values they hold today and that is a win-win situation.
I am convinced, if we can draw our forces together we can be an unstoppable force for change in this nation and the world. Communication, clear goals and strategy are what we need now, it takes work, but we can make a dramatic difference for the future if we keep at it.
