Dana Milbank: Why the lamestream media should go easy on Romney

"The media wants to beat up Mitt Romney," Sean Hannity told his Fox News viewers this week, "which is driving me nuts."

Me too, Sean. Much as I'd like to see Hannity driven nuts, I agree that we in the media have been far too rough on the Republican presidential nominee. In fact, I send this urgent appeal to my fellow members of the lamestream media: Please go easy on the guy – for our own sake.

First, Romney was pounded for his false and tone-deaf statements about the attacks on U.S. embassies in Libya and Egypt; in a weak moment, I joined in the criticism.

<snip.

Worst of all was Monday, when my friend David Corn had the temerity to post on Mother Jones a surreptitiously recorded video of Romney dismissing nearly half the country as moochers.

Smug and smarmy to the Nth degree, Hannity prissily pranced THERE voluntarily long ago.

Money talks, Hannity (R) squawks.

...and I say--the more we can "drive him nuts" the better. That man is a lying, piece of shit. He is part of the reason that 20 percent of this country hates Obama personally--and believes that he is a Socialist/Marxist who hates this country.

I won't spread Hannity's bullshit words around. It's just not worth it. I've had a headache maybe twice in my life. After listening to Hannity--I had a raging headache. My shoulder and my neck hurt. I didn't even realize that I was hurting until I got up after watching that bastard for a half hour. So much tension had accumulated in my body.

They're liars. Dirty f'n liars. Their shows are the equivalent of "yelling fire in a crowded theater." It's not just opinion. It's the systematic programming of a very ignorant portion of our population. And it's devastating. It's so sad.

Healthy discourse and political debate are fine. But Hannity has nothing to do with healthy debate. He's a shameless liar.

Their new meme---that Obama said that the Libyan attacks were not due to terrorists, but now they say that the attacks were due to terrorism--therefore Obama is backtracking and he lied. Can you believe it???? I heard Susan Rice say that they were INVESTIGATING. They didn't lie. They simply didn't have the facts or any evidence, so they weren't ready to say what happened. They investigated. They now know it was a terrorist attack.

So now, Hannity can't stop saying that the Obama Administration said it wasn't a terrorist attack--but now they say it is.

Screw you Hannity---you piece of shit lying bastard with the integrity of a ping-pong ball.

Sorry--still pissed after watching that crap. They're making our country dumb and making millions doing it. It just makes me sick.

For being able to endure him for half an hour. I have never made it beyond his second sentence. I have tried because I truly believe we should look at all sides of an issue, but you just don't get facts from Fox News. Since Murdoch bought the WSJ i don't entirely trust that publication either.

Did you ever notice that the Republicans are the biggest bunch of whiney candy asses? When Romney acts like the biggest buffon in history -- it's never Romney's fault.

It's the media's fault.

It's Obama's fault.

It's Peggy Noonan's fault.

It's everyone's fault BUT THEIR OWN!

This is a party that constantly lectures the poor, the elderly and the unemployed about PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and RUGGED INDIVIDUALISM. They don't miss a chance to lecture the less fortunate about personal responsibility. But when their guy is running his campaign into a ditch and engaging in ridiculously stupid behaviors---it's everyone else's fault. Never their own.

These hypocritical whiners really need to quit being such whiny babies. It's getting really old.

that somewhere out there, the recipients of Whipsaw Willard's peculiar brand of humor in prep school, which some might call bullying, are feeling a tiny sense of vindication, that the country sees him for the small stunted soul he really is.

As far as I am concerned, Sean Hannity can dish it out, but can't take the boomerangs. He's a bully in every sense of the word. Since he can't find any good news about Romney, he has nothing else to fill the air with except blaming everything Obama. He only likes to hear his own voice....that's okay, I don't listen to his show or station anyway. He and his show is a piece of dung.
