If Trump attempts to cancel the election

Many states could look to secede and join Canada. It could happen. New England, New York, much of the northern east coast and the Pacific Northwest and west coast could leave and become their own union or join Canada.

It would literally take an Act of Congress to change the election date, and it ain't gonna happen.

Now make sure you vote!!! But only ONCE!!!

All 50 of them.

That means no sheriffs, no school board members, no commissioners and mayors, etc, etc.

There are other races to be decided on Nov. 3.

It is not going to happen.

There would be no need to join with Canada. Although it would suck to have to take a passport to visit my dad in Pennsylvania.

I don't blame them. Maybe they took the right path in 1812- stick with Britain and evolve into a common-sensical democracy.

That Trump doesn’t care about what authority he has
And only ONE Republican Senator has stood up to him

Will enough Republican Senators agree to remove him if he does this? I don’t think so as cancelling the election benefits them as well.

The argument that it should be delayed because of Covid-19 runs against his demand that schools and businesses reopen.

States have their own laws that coincide with federal law. Even if Congress were to pass a law to change the date of the election and the idiot signs it all 50 states would have to convene their state legislatures to do the same. That is not going to happen.

The easiest path for states would be to extend the absentee by mail option. Otherwise, they apply Covid-19 safety protocols for in person voting.

More importantly, why would we throw in the towel and give up so easily? While I like the people and the country, they still aren't my people or my county; I'm American, not Canadian. Although, it would be beyond irony to once again become a British colony without firing one shot... The humiliation would be devastating.

Have you found any provision in the Constitution for a state to secede? How long would you expect Generalissimo Trump to wait before attacking any such wayward states?

People have been warning for months Trump will try to cancel the elections if things look bad for him. Now he says he might do it. The fact that he can't is irrelevant to Trump and his henchmen. Trump's laying the groundwork for another one of his illegal power grabs.

If enough Republican-controlled states decide to go along with Trump's coup attempt, it will create total chaos. I can see Governors DeSantis, Kemp, Abbott, Ducey and others following Trump's dictates, no matter how many legal challenges are launched. And who's going to stop them? The DOJ?

With Republican states leaving. The concept was heavily ridiculed on DU.

Also it was said that any state which left should have to pay all Federally owned buildings and infrastructure built with Federal funds. Would that still apply?
