Is Romney Channeling Nixon? (Checkers' speech & bad make-up)
I'm enough of a student of history to have heard about both the infamous Checkers' speech and the bad make-up of Nixon during the first televised Presidential debates. And though I was not around for the one and much too young to have seen the the other, I find myself having flashbacks when it comes to Mittens. Is he channeling Nixon?
Which, granted, would be ironic as Nixon was the poor guy who worked his way up to presidential nominee and Kennedy was the one who came from a rich family that helped him get the chance at the presidency. Nevertheless, I hear Romney talk about his early hardships or how normal a guy he is and I keep hearing "Pat doesn't even have a fur coat...." And now this television fiasco where no one remembers what he said, just that he was the wrong color. Which reminds me of Nixon's bad look during the debates which, likewise, garnered more attention than what he said (from what I've heard, those listening to the debates on radio thought Nixon had won them, but those watching TV put Kennedy was the winner).
I'm not trying to compare Mitt to Nixon in background or politics or anything like that, just in how he's running for office. He seems, at times, to be channeling Nixon at his worse there.
