I dont want to hear any bitching and moaning after Joe Biden picks his VP. Many people are going to be disappointed, no matter who he picks. But this should be a moment for Democrats to unite. So practice grace in congratulating the pick now. Im serious.

(53,410 posts)But what makes me the happiest is that all the departments and agencies will finally get appointed leadership. We will no longer have Trump donors running things. One example is someone like Jill Biden, who has a doctorate in education will be heading the Department of Education. Our government will again be run by competent people who will restore and improve their individual agencies all at the same time. Everything Trump set out to destroy will be brought back and improved.
And we will fix our relationship with the world, hopefully as a Nation equal to all others. No more supremacist policies. If we dont find humility after Trump then were just as bad as he is.

My pick for VP?
Anyone who is competent. Skin color and gender is WAY down on my list of parameters.

(19,569 posts)Focus and win. Exactly because we're up against a monster.
While I'd rather not see someone not ready to step up on day one if needed, I'll support Biden and his choice. I'm sure he'll not pick someone without enough intelligence and political savvy to be able to hold the position with honor and grace.

(58,785 posts)by allowing factional disappointments to be used against us. The day Biden makes his decision is the day to tick that item off as accomplished and look forward to the next.
(I've been telling myself it's his choice and all his real candidates are the kind of good people you'd expect him to consider, but I have a secret definite favorite anyway and will be disappointed if she isn't the one. Again. )

(42,770 posts)But Biden finds himself in a very unique situation. It's now literally, a life or death decision. Bigger than one person (him).
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Whatever his belief in his own abilities, I believe his criteria must include a person voters can be comfortable imagining succeeding to the presidency, or just, someday, a very active VP assisting a president who's lost his stamina.

(42,770 posts)Chris Dodd off selection committee. Been meaning to look that up.
I know so little about how he feels about it all. Wonder how seeing what the job is like first hand affects your thinking.

(58,785 posts)Dodd's supposedly an old friend and workmate, the unofficial most influential member. Maybe a lessening of position...?
Also crossed my mind that maybe Dodd said what he did deliberately to cool and tweak runaway speculation about Harris a bit and that Politico, and then everyone else, used it to attack Harris -- without remorse.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)POLITICO report Monday that Harris is not a lock for VP. It quoted former Sen. Chris Dodd, one of four members of the vetting unit, remarking to a prominent Democratic donor that Harris had no remorse for attacking Biden during a debate last year.
