I barely thought of him in the 90s, maybe three or four times a year, at most. That picked up a bit once he started the Apprentice, but since I didn't watch it I still rarely thought about him. Everything changed when he went full birther in 2008, but even then he was just one in a sea of lunatics. Fast forward to today, and I can't stop thinking about all the damage he's done and how much more he can do.
The only thing that gives me hope is that I was also pretty fixated on W's awfulness from 2000 to 2009, and yet today I only think of him is when he's on the news, which is pretty rare.
At this point, the best option is that he's charged and convicted, and then we can all forget about him when he's rotting in prison.

(16,254 posts)He dominates way too much of my day and I wonder what I'm going to do with all that spare time when he's finally gone. I don't have a clue. It isn't that I'm interested in him, but I found early one that if I didn't keep up with his antics, it was impossible to catch up.
Know your enemy. That's the only reason I watch his rallies. Fortunately, there is someone counting his lies because I stopped after the second day. I think they are over 20,000.
Our future is going to be wonderfully different...IF he doesn't kill us first with the mishandling of COVID-19!

donnie is not going to drop out of public discourse even after he dies.
hopefully, the vast majority of people will talk about him as something nearly as toxic as hitler.

(7,870 posts)paraphrasing George Santayana: Those that cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it...every time GOP stooges open their mouths we have to shove Donald Trump down their throats...we have to remember and build monuments to those innocent lives lost because of Trump's depraved indifference and stupidity...we have to come down hard on racists and bigots..regard any racial/ethnic/gender attack as a hate crime and prosecute as such...the Dems cannot allow Trump, Barr, Miller and their kind to walk away free an clear...

(70,779 posts)what was in the air. I concluded he was everything I detested - bombastic bully. At Burlingtons I would *scoot* out of the aisle where his crap shirts and ties were like I'd seen a monster. Yet I considered him a freak buffoon, not a real threat. I laughed my head off when OBAMA roasted him. Then the laugh was on me.
Here's one of my letters to the editor, this one about how fast we will forget him:
******** It was said of JFK, Johnny, we hardly knew ye. Todays difference is that we have known way too much about Donald J.Trump from Day 1, more than we ever wanted to know or invited into our lives, and he will be the most surprised of anybody when he realizes how soon and fast the country will completely wipe out all memory of him.
Since that escalator descent and initial shock of his racism, it has been a daily barrage of jaw dropping incredulity for us. Weve been through all stages of: Lets understand him; lets see him grow and change; lets see the wider world open his awareness and his heart. And we who knew who and what he was from Day 1 launched into the daily game of Aint-It-Awful, trading his latest verbal atrocity and diagnoses, and just attacking.
What kind of person would insult Gold Star parents, veterans in general, and any persons of integrity, honor, accomplishments, dragging down anybody that he looks bad next to? Nothing worked against him because there was no need to be complicated just no norms, all publicity stunts, and cutthroat tactics.
But we are pulling out of this morass and he will be gone. Even his die hard supporters will eventually be rid of him and will be as happy as everybody else.
Both parties used to sort of believe what each said it stood for and what the other one was about. Well, the Republican Party has forfeited absolutely all pretense it has ever claimed to patriotism, veterans support, family values, pro-life, small government, character-matters, and all moral equities. I dont care about polls, strategies to fight him, or what character assassinations he will unleash. But most of all, I wont count on his losing in November.
