Mitt's Unfortunate Reference to 'Illegal Aliens' on Univision

In response to a direct question on the DREAM Act, he said, "for those that are here, that are undocumented, that were brought here by their parents, and therefore are illegal aliens...my view is that we should put into place a permanent solution."

Most kids who would be covered under the DREAM Act do not consider themselves illegal aliens. They've grown up in this country. They've been educated in our schools. They pledge allegiance to our flag. Some of them serve our country. Others of them want to.

They are caught in an unfair web, but they are not "illegal aliens." And why on earth would Romney think it was a good idea to say that to the Univision audience?

He goes on in this segment to extol Marco Rubio's solution while blaming Democrats for the stall on the DREAM Act and immigration reform. Rubio's solution doesn't give anyone, including DREAMers, a path to citizenship. It just keeps them from being deported. What kind of solution is that?

It gets worse, though. When asked if he was ducking the question and whether he would deport immigrants, he feigned outrage at the thought, and then yammered about a 'permanent solution' that makes cannon fodder of kids brought here with their parents as a condition for citizenship. After all, if Mitt wants to do battle with Iran, he'll need fresh troops to fight it. It appears he wishes to mine the groups of immigrants in this country who would just like a way to apply for and work toward citizenship.

The goal is to create a permanent 'descended from immigrants' underclass to put pressure on compensation. The oligarchial class (of which Romney is one) encouraged undocumented workers to come into this country (this has happened through US History, btw) in order to depress wages. The most recent example is the bringing in Latinos (and their young families) as scabs to break the predominantly African-American unions in hotel/food service and groups like the UFW (disclosure: my family is union, and one of those, Southern Tenant Farmer's Union, became part of the UFW). I favor enabling anyone brought into the country as a child, who grew up here, a relatively easy path of citizenship. I am a descendant of immigrants, as are all those who are not Native American. For us to whine about 'illegal immigrants' is to ignore our own heritage, whether it be German, Italian, East European or any is to deny that heritage.

Romney is clueless enough to actually express the oligarch point of view in unguarded moments (do we really want someone with a tin ear in government at any level?). I've been horrified that this vulture capitalist empty suit was considered by the GOP establishment to be suitable for candidacy. I know he's been working the refs on that side since he was gubner [sic] of Massachusetts, but really!

The purpose of encouraging undocumented immigration is to reduce the living conditions of our country, except for the 1%. They are as anti-Christian as the most fervent member of al-Quaeda, and far more dangerous. I regard the oligarchs with the same contempt.
