. . . just the worst, most inane stunt you can recall a major candidate for office pulling? I mean, can you imagine his thinking? Was it his own idea? Did he actually think someone, somewhere would see his darkened skin and say to themselves, 'Hey now, this guy who wants my friends and family members to self-deport is really just like ME?'
Did he really mean it when he told his rich buds that he wished he was a Mexican?
Seriously. ANYBODY would know BETTER! Anybody, but Romney. It's beyond insulting. It's just plain pathetic. Why is anyone still taking this immature buffoon seriously?

(13,468 posts)I hadn't seen such a close shot of his orange glow until this picture. I don't think that's a color found in the human race. Yuck. I've bought fake tanning products that did a better job at Walgreens.

(50,597 posts)it is incomprehensible, I tend to stutter a bit. Well, I find what is happening re the Romney campaign, Romney himself, etc, is making me stutter more and more. I'm gonna stick with smilies from now on!
and .
I can imagine a middle-schooler trying a thing like this in hopes it would help him fit in, but a grown man? What this says about his thought processes, and about his opinion of his audience's intelligence ...

There needs to be a new word coined for this, maybe Romneyesque?!?

(90,801 posts)He tanned his skin to appear more like the people he was talking to - because he thought darker skin would make him more appealing to people with naturally occurring brown skin. Someone told him, or he told himself, that changing your skin hue was a way to appeal to people who don't have his skin hue. Just think of what that says.
He groups all non-whites into categories and doesn't see individuals. He only sees people by their skin hue. It never once occurred to him how insulting that was. To paint yourself up because otherwise people couldn't see past his white skin - suggesting that he believes the only reason Latinos don't like him is his skin color. That they are just too stupid to hear his message and decide.
That, somehow, it won't matter what he says as long as he says it with a brown face.
Romney's 'brown-face' is racism.
Ignorant, yes - but that ignorance is part and parcel to racist thinking.

A candidate for the Presidency of the United States of America trying to appeal to minority voters by putting on makeup to make himself appear less white.
Repeat that to yourself a couple of times.

(39,961 posts)is run by the most incompetent people I've ever seen. The Three Stooges could run a campaign more credible, if they had the Keystone Cops acting as security and Krusty the Klown doing public relations.
. . . it looks like Romney's in full control of the message and appearance (outside of the commercials, that is).
Consider though, what his handlers bring to the game. The republican argument has, itself, become a weak parody which can't rely on a suspension of disbelief or ignorance anymore. in short, the republican party has run out of persuasive arguments. The truth has caught up with its standard lies about taxes, warring, our health needs - and they're stuck in their ridiculous opposition which reads like a corporate-sponsored ad.
Romney's a product of a defunct political machine. He's a disfigured and mutant spawn. Anything he manages to convey will reek of all of that . .
Most folks today aren't interested in dumbing-down deliberately, just to elect him king of the demagogues. What a waste of a suit!

(2,391 posts)This is not at the Univision event that was televised, though. He wore a suit with a bright white shirt to that. You know, to emphasize his sudden Latino roots.

(2,391 posts)I looked at the video of the Univision event and MSNBC has been showing it throughout the day (without bronzer comments - yet!). Oh, yeah, he is definitely orange with noticeable 'tan' lines and white hands. He really is that stupid.
