Forbes: Yertle Caves on the $600!

McConnell: ‘I’m Prepared To Support’ A Coronavirus Stimulus Bill That Includes $600 Unemployment Checks

TOPLINE Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters Tuesday he is “prepared to support” a coronavirus stimulus package that includes an extension of the $600 enhanced unemployment checks that has now officially expired, as the GOP struggles to come to a consensus over the benefit.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Monday that she’s not willing to negotiate the amount of unemployment relief, telling CNN, “I think that the number, the $600, is related more to the unemployment rate. If the unemployment goes down, then that number can go down.”

While Senate Republicans have proposed different cuts to the benefits, including a reduction to $200 a week before transitioning to a 70% wage replacement rate, President Trump on Friday signaled his support for the $600 checks.

McConnell on Tuesday said of the benefits, “If you’re looking for a total consensus among Republican senators, you're not going to find it. So we do have divisions about what to do.”

However, McConnell said he would support a bill that included the $600 weekly checks if the Democrats, negotiating with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, agreed to it with the Trump Administration.

Democrats have the upper hand because a bill has to pass the House and get democratic votes in the Senate. Yertle came out of the gate like he controlled his caucus which he doesn't.

He needs only 4 R votes for passage. He can easily get the votes for cloture as any R voting for it will still be able to vote against the final bill. Yea votes from Collins, Romney, Murkowski and Yertle is all that’s needed.

No reason at all for Pelosi to compromise with the Rs.

tell him either he brings it to the floor or not.

I suspect it would pass in the Senate.

Modern Monetary Theory. Debt is not to be feared by nations. It contributes to a healthier economy in the long run. It’s just a bit over my head but members of my family are knowledgeable economists and I’ve absorbed some info from them. It’s not as fringe as you might think, and has long term evidence of working based on histories of states and nations. Here is one example of a quick summary from a web search: https://www.businessinsider.com/modern-monetary-theory-mmt-explained-aoc-2019-3

folks around the world.
Maybe we cut back on that and distribute the money to actual struggling citizens?
Kinda like a diet. Maybe we can call it “KILLER KETO” to appease the right wingers.
They love that shit.
