Election Day is now just three months away, and the overall trajectory of the race hasnt changed much recently: Joe Biden continues to hold a sizable lead over President Trump. Biden is now up by 8 percentage points in FiveThirtyEights national polling average, and he has an advantage of 5 points or more in several key battleground states like Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Faced with these numbers, though, a lot of people Republicans, Democrats and people with no particular party affiliation raise a reasonable question: Wasnt Hillary Clinton leading in the polls too?
Well, yes. But not quite like this. We compared Bidens standing to where Clinton was at this point in the polls four years ago.1 We specifically chose this point in the cycle in 2016 because its about where Clinton hit her peak on Aug. 7, 2016, following the Democratic National Convention, Clinton had a 7.5-point lead over Trump in national polls.
Clinton never topped that lead. But as you can see in the chart below, even at her post-convention peak, Clintons lead over Trump still wasnt as large as Bidens is now.

(92,319 posts)and the sexism hurled from the media at her was unforgivable. She is too shrill, she never smiles, she is angry all the time, etc etc etc
Thanks with the help of Comey, and the media, we are where we are today

(15,325 posts)Add to that the all out onslaught of mysogony, & brutal destruction of the image of HRC from social media & MSM, from both Trump foreign influencers & the Bernie Sanders far left drumbeat of the same.
HRC was the most forward thinking Democratic candidate we have had, yet her swiftboating came from all directions.
She warned her country about Trump. Today we live with the fault of those who refused to listen.
Joe Biden is in an entirely different race than HRC, so this polling comparison is a moot point.

(244 posts)I love Hillary, but she had a lot of baggage. 30 years of the right wing turning her into a demon cost her the election IMO. And Trump and the echo chamber convinced enough people not to vote for her, even if they had to hold their noses and vote for Trump. My DH was one of them. But 2020 is different. No one can credibly claim that Biden is not a decent man. 4 years of Trump has shown enough of these on the fence Trump voters what a mistake it was. All we need is a few voters like my DH in a few states to switch to Biden. I truly believe there are millions of them. DH is now vehemently antiTrump. I know lots of people just like him, and my circle of friends isnt that big. 😃
I truly believe this is going to be a blowout. But we still need to work to make it happen,
