FLIPPABLE: Steven Crum for KS-HD98

Born and raised in Kansas House District 98, Crum graduated from Campus High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Newman University.

Crum served on the Haysville City Council from 2001 to 2010, and again from 2013 to present. During his time on Council, he has been on many boards and committees including: Community Library Board, Recreation Committee, Finance Committee, Park Board Chair, Tree Board, and was elected to multiple terms as Council President.

For 20 years, Crum has taught elementary education and technology at Nelson Elementary. Since 1991 he has been a dedicated coach and volunteer for teams including middle school volleyball, middle and high school swim, little league, summer swim club, and Special Olympics. As a teacher and coach, Crum knows what works and what doesn't in the classroom and understands first-hand the impact legislative action can have on the quality of public schools.

With his experience on the Council, and as the current chief negotiator for the Haysville Education Association, Crum is experienced in how the political process works and how to negotiate amicable solutions to difficult problems. Recognizing the extreme effects on our local school district and city budgets, he stays current on state politics. He knows that solutions can only be found with understanding of the problems.

Crum is very active in the community having served on the Haysville Planning Commission, been an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Haysville Healthy Habits, Friends of the Library, and Campus Booster Club. He and Paige, his wife of 23 years, have raised their four children: Tracy, Olyvia (Glynn), Dawsen and Daine to be civic minded individuals who take pride and responsibility in their communities.
