(7,431 posts)This looks like Trumps first step in doing away with the ACA. Hes betting that the Courts will delegitimize the ACA, and he wants to return to a for profit insurance industry. He believes that his EO will be his throwaway for the masses, after which theyll have nothing to complain about even as there will be no price controls on the industry.

(34,857 posts)Trump said they're looking into signing it in the next two weeks. Two weeks for Trump = something that is not going to happen. Since it's already law at this point, and that Supreme Court ruling isn't expected until after the election, this gives him news coverage announcing something he has no intentions of actually doing hoping it'll dupe some unsuspecting morons into believing the reason preexisting conditions are covered is because of this EO he won't ever sign.

Can he have his cookie and a Depend's change now? Ultracrepidarian dotards need cookies and fresh diapers often. He needs something to help him womp away.
I can't wait for the Presidential Magic Wand to be utilized more. Oh, the spells are very simple.

(14,742 posts)EO's primarily affect the us gov't executive branch, not private industry.
He can't legislate through edict. That isn't legal.
But he doesn't care. He thinks if he gives people part of what they already have he can do anything else he wants.
Doesn't work that way yet, despite what barr and yoo say.

(3,282 posts)also mandating universal buying would bankrupt all insurance companies.
The reason you have all of the young and healthy people in the plan is to offset the costs of the older and sick ones. If you demand coverage of preexisting conditions you could just wait until you got sick and then buy into an insurance policy.
The EO probably wouldn't be enforceable without law behind it and it, on its own, would collapse the private insurance industry.
