Who do you want Biden to pick for Veep?

On Tuesday, Joe Biden set off a new wave of speculation about his running mate when cameras captured his handwritten talking points about Kamala Harris (“Do not hold grudges”; “Campaigned with me & Jill”; “Talented”; “Great help to campaign”; “Great respect for her”). What that means for the senator’s chances is unclear, but we should know soon; Biden also confirmed that he will announce his vice-presidential pick during the “first week in August.” So we are in the short rows for this long-anticipated event and can now present the main prospects for the last time, with their pros and cons. Unless noted otherwise, the order of this listing is my own ranking of likelihood, and with that and five bucks you can get a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

You need a “pit bull” as #2 and she has shown she can do that in Congressional hearings.

Joe can even adapt her slogan to “Biden/Harris — For The People.”

She's not in your poll, while others who have not really been in contention for weeks, are included. Grisham, Baldwin, Abrams? No way he picks any of those.

I was surprised Whitmer wasn't included in the list.

Another name that I know he wouldn't pick, but I'd love to see make a "being considered" list is Carmen Yulín Cruz - the Mayor of San Juan, PR.

Elizabeth Warren even though I’d be shocked if she was the pick. I’m fine with Harris. Don’t know enough about Karen Bass but it would raise eyebrows as America collectively asks “who?” I’d be annoyed with Susan Rice. Not sure any of the rest of them are really in contention.

...given his age, does (fill in the blank) really have the qualifications? Warren does have the age, experience, and gravitas to answer that. That said, I don't think she will be the pick.

Three I wouldn't rule out:

Demings - The Florida connection and the police experience make her a very attractive pick.
Whitmer - Not that Veeps have had a stellar record delivering their states - but Joe needs Michigan.
Duckworth - WOC, disabled Vet, mom, coiner of "Cadet Bonespurs", and Midwesterner. And a safe Senate seat (unlike Warren)

Several on this poll are clearly not on Biden’s list, but after leaks this weekend, apparently Whitmer is.

Her speeches and personality would be phenomenal. It would be fantastic every day as they screamed Benghazi and she methodically dissected the totality of Trumpism.

None of the others have her raw ability, IMO.

I think this would be an easy call for Biden if not for Rice's appearances on those Sunday talk shows immediately following Benghazi. I could understand his worry about those clips but I think he's got to be confident enough to understand that blaming Rice for Benghazi would be like somebody else trotted out to take the blame for Hillary's emails.

She delivered the Administrations message in the way that they wanted it delivered. I would think Benghazi plays to her advantage with Biden.
