Trump claims, erroneously, that Virginia sent out half-a-million incorrect ballot applications ...

Before being interrupted by the shooting incident outside, Pres Trump began his opening statement citing an incident in which he says Virginia sent out half-a-million incorrect ballot applications, including to "some dead people." Says "very susceptible" to a rigged election.

That's not what happened. The ballots were not mailed by Virginia. They were mailed by a private group. It got the return address wrong. Take it away, Fairfax County government:

Fairfax County Election Officials Warn Voters About Inaccurate Center for Voter Information Mailing
August 6, 2020

Fairfax County election officials want to alert voters about an inaccurate and potentially misleading mailing from the Center for Voter Information.

Be on the lookout for this inaccurate mailing to county voters.

This group is mass mailing pre-filled, absentee ballot applications to county voters without their request—and the mailer includes return envelopes to send the application to the City of Fairfax, not Fairfax County.

“This mailing is causing great confusion and concern among voters who have been contacting our office,” said Fairfax County General Registrar Gary Scott. “While the mailing may appear to be from an official government agency, the Fairfax County Office of Elections did not send it.”

The mailing is also confusing voters who have previously submitted absentee ballot applications themselves, Scott added. These voters are worried that their applications were not received, leading them to think they need to apply again.

Fairfax County is working with the City of Fairfax to ensure any applications received from the center’s inaccurate mailing will be processed by the county.

A later tweet sent in reply to the first tweet has it right:

Factually wrong. Sent out by a private non-profit. & err9rs would have hurt Dems since Fairfax County, by far largest jurisdiction in state, is heavily Dem. So far Virginia has not mailed forms to request mail-in ballots. & voter registration roles always have dead ppl on them

This. “Virginia” did not send out anything and it is incredibly disingenuous to say otherwise.

I figured there would be a fact check on that one. Aside from the fact that it came out of Trump's mouth, it also just didn't sound right.
