To those who don't know what "The Divine Nine" is, just mentioned on "The Reidout"...

Our next VP is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the oldest primarily African American sorority.

All of the African American sororities and fraternities call themselves "The Divine Nine" and have friendly rivalries back and forth but quite often work together on common causes.

They are:
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority
Iota Phi Theta Fraternity

While we just wanted to party, those guys seemed 15 years older than us. Very disciplined young men, unlike me.

This was 1985 or so. I and most of my fellow frat members were conservative but we had great respect for the Black Fraternity members. They were tight and often active in campus politics.
