everybody I've seen on TV was smiling ear to ear! The only grumpy face I saw was a fleeting clip of DT reading his reaction to Joe's choice. It's wonderful to have a winning ticket but I have to ask, has this kind of happy response to a VP pick ever happened, in any Party ever happened before? I sure don't remember any.

(34,051 posts)i was working on the computer with the tv & radio off, decided to pop in on facebook and saw a friend had posted this picture, without comment from him or anyone else; i was the first to see it. then i remembered biden was supposed to announce his choice for vp this week.
i started to smile, wondering if this was a clue.
i hurried over to du and saw the front page!
i was soooo happy!
i called my daughter--she didn't answer. no one else to share this wonderful news with at the time, but that was okay. i was so uplifted--walking around here smiling for the longest time.

(7,631 posts)You know that it had to play into this decision. Plus, Joe is 77 and will be over 80 by the time this 1st term is over.
Just let sink in for a minute...
I wonder if all this was discussed beforehand? They musta as I'm sure he'll be looking forward to retiring from politics by then. We've all seen how that job ages you.
My only question and it's a concern TBH, is who is going to be AG now?

(45,806 posts)I told her I had given it a lot of thought and of all the candidates I think it boils down to two. Kamala Harris & Liz Warren. He needs someone he not going to have to train and because of the disaster DT is leaving us, he going to need a lot of help. I eliminated Warren because we didn't need to run TWO candidates who are over 70. The others running all had assets but none with real National exposure and I think the job would overwhelm them. My husband asked me just last week who I thought would be the VP. I told him the same thing. I'd like to think Joe & I think alike, but that would be way too presumptive. I'm just thrilled with Joe's choice & although I'm on SS, I try to send him $10 each week or two. I sure hope every other voterr does the same of course VOTE for Biden/Harris in November!

Sympthsical
(9,073 posts)She was well-positioned to be a very powerful Senator, and the VP slot could be a bit of a demotion if Biden had ambitions on eight years. Parties don't typically hold for 12-16 years in the modern era.
So the idea of a presidential run in '24, with her national profile increased, and the Trump disasters giving her the richest gold to mine for four years had to be pretty tantalizing for her.
Schiff as AG would be hilarious. He would give his left nut to see the Trumpists nailed to several walls. My one however there is that I think he may have eyes on the Speakership. Nothing against that, either. We have a deep bench. Biden will find someone.

(41,960 posts)You know how you dont realize youve been holding your breath til you can let it go? It feels like that. All these people who have been holding our breath, steely eyed, getting through, and suddenly we can breathe and laugh and smile again, because this is history, long overdue, and hope, rekindled.

(63,221 posts)Once I heard that Kamala was his VP pick, I suddenly felt this huge weight lifted from my soul. Like I could breathe again and finally have some hope again.
It was so oppressive. I have been actually spending the past few days crying off and on for no particular reason, it just kept spontaneously kept coming up. And I never, ever cry. Maybe once every 5 years or so. And for a good reason. This was just from complete despair and I couldn't help it.
I feel completely free of that feeling today. For the first time in so long, I have hope again. It is such a good feeling after being down for so long. Thank you for your post!

(1,656 posts)amd when Biden came in and overwhelmed everyone, I was glad. But I was always worried--like we all want to support him, but he doesn't bring the sizzle.
Now he's for his compadre and we will see a new gear with Biden.
Ultimately, Joe is the ultimate team player who will lead with grace and humility while Kamala will be the exciting candidate who has an inside chance to be the US' first female president.
