We Are Witnessing The Death Throes of The GOP

The selection of Senator Harris as the VP for Biden has worked as a catalyst to bring about the final ending to a horrific time for the GOP.

We've seen the rise of The Lincoln Project and Republican Voters Against Trump as conservatives who are reasonable have watched their party dive into madness. So we knew the end of the GOP was near. But the Tolling of the Bell really began yesterday afternoon with the announcement of Harris as Biden's VP. Coincidentally, in Georgia, we saw an openly racist conspiracy theorist win the GOP primary for a Congressional District. Soon after, Trump went to his safe place and emitted what can only be described as a dementia laden rambling run-on statement when asked what he thought about Harris being chosen as Biden's VP. Then Laura Ingraham had Convicted Felon Dinesh D'Souza claim that Harris shouldn't be considered an African American and falsely claimed she was the descendent of slave owners in Jamaica. Then Tucker Carlson's complete implosion on being corrected how to pronounce Senator Harris's first name, Kamala, as a minimum level of respect for a VP Candidate. The spectacle goes on but I think it is safe to say the GOP has finally shit the bed and we are just waiting for the final last draws of racist breaths to spew out of an empty carcass. Unfortunately, we'll have to witness this slow degrading and disgraceful process for another 83 days.

But only in the context of the GOP as a going concern. There will always be those opposed to what we believe as Democrats though. How that opposition reconstitutes itself in the future is a compelling story to follow I think.

I get the same feeling. Seeing them drag Kellyanne Conway out of her crypt and hearing her comments, seeing the ridiculous froth they are attempting to throw at Kamala Harris, blowing harmlessly back in their faces. They seem spent, totally exhausted. And it's embarrassing, quite frankly.

That the GOP is the party of old white folks who will eventually die out. Sadly, they’re being replaced. Trump has shown that there are legions of racist, low-information voters who’ve been waiting to come out from beneath their rocks. And they’re not going anywhere.

There are generational shifts but the bottom line change is minimal. The recent shifts are largely offset by whites becoming even more unhinged and eager to elect nutcase types to local and state offices, with many of them naturally filtering upwards to high office.

The percentage of self-identified conservatives has been rising nationally, not falling. That's all you need to know. Party identification means nothing compared to ideology. I can demonstrate that with table after table but nobody cares about numbers around here so I don't post them anymore, compared to my early years on this site.

As evidenced by Marjorie Taylor Greene's win as one example (Trump is another).

It's not the elected leaders of the party or their media enablers, it's the voters.

Their blatant disregard for the everyday American and their needs was well shown by their blatant disregard for fiscal discipline in passing the 2017 tax cut and jobs bill (what jobs and who is going to pay for these massive federal deficits, created solely by the gop?).

The gop and trump are as racist and sexist as their opponents have been claiming for years, and now it's fully in the open for all to see.

I strongly believe that efforts to taint Kamala and her heritage will backfire hugely on the gop and trump, and if anything, bring housewives and many others (some of whom are still sitting on the fence) to view Kamala in a more sympathetic, positive light.

The GOP could be snuffed out this time if Biden and Congress revive the Independent Prosecutor law, and unleash the IC to Mercilessly investigate and Prosecute all the crimes and corruption of the Trump administration.

Otherwise, it will take another decade for demographic changes in the population to overcome the certain backlash/last gasp of the dying supremacy of straight white males.

- biden wins by 8-10% of popular vote
- 400 EV win
- democrats flip texas, flip Arizona legislatures and a couple other governorships
- pick up 6-9 Senate seats
- add another 20-30 seats in the house to their existing lead

then Biden declares a american people mandate and then , executive orders, end of filibuster we have a process in place to right decades old worngs
- immigration
- campaign finance
- gun control
- Fairness Doctrine
- total rewrite of the taxcode
- federal voting standards states MUST meet or lose federal $$$$

then work for 2020 and taking a commanding lead at states and in the Senate where we can push constitutional changes, impeach a few hundredfederal judges and remove

It's not desperate. It's standard procedure.
Attack with untruths constantly.

Yes, there are Republicans who want out of the Trump cabal but I don't see that among the Republican politicians.
They still support Trump 110% whether they like it or not.
I think Trump has permanently changed the Republican party and it won't go away if Biden wins.
Limbaugh was the opening act and primed the pump.
Then Trump gushed out in full force and Republicans drank him up with gusto.

The Republican party will continue being who they are because that's all they know. They will keep attacking with bald faced lies ad infinitum and Republican Americans will eat it up because that's who they are.

Appealing to a majority of voters is no longer something they care about. They no longer care about achieving their goal through democratic means.

That doesn't mean they don't care about voters at all, they care about having the minimum support they need to legitimize their holding power. The only voters they need are the extremist 30%, that's the amount that they can lie and cheat and still claim some legitimacy. This is similar to other dictatorships in the past, they start out very unpopular but have just enough support to feign legitimacy, then when they consolidate power and control the media they can gt the support of the majority for their extremist positions.

...and the Democrats had the House AND a filibuster-proof majority (60 seats) in the Senate, the pundits were predicting a new permanent blue majority. Respected journalists pontificated that the GOP would NEVER recover, and that demographics would only make it worse.

THEN the Koch Brothers and Karl Rove went to work with the astroturf "Tea Party" nonsense. They found white grievance to be the keys to the kingdom. The 2010 midterms were a disaster for Dems. Not only did they lose their Congreesional power, they got their clocks cleaned in the state legislatures and statehouse races. This led to a re-apportionment map that has empowered the minority for a decade.

DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT THE FIGHT IS WON! The Republicans do not play fair, and they play for keeps. Power is NEVER surrendered cordially. It must be taken, and it must be defended relentlessly.

they are able to not pay in a fair tax code, they'll be able to afford to harness the party's racism and willful ignorance for their sole benefit.

If you want to end the GOP in its present form, then end the near unquestioning acceptance of Trickle-down Economic Policies, as those polices clearly do not favor the vast majority of American citizens.

In simpler terms, tax the GOP's current ownership out of existence. The racism and willful ignorance will still be out there, but it will be vastly reduced in political power.

Are these Lincoln Project Republicans, or other disaffected Republicans joining the Democratic Party, the Libertarians, the Greens, the Constitution, or forming a new political party?

I don't see that happening, so I don't think we are witnessing the death of the GOP. Sitting an election cycle or two out isn't the same thing as killing a political party.
