(51,285 posts)Dont mistake the Big Ten and Pac-12 cancelling all fall sports for the end of college football in 2020.
At least not yet.
If you need more proof that the sport is geographical and controlled by conferences rather than the overarching NCAA, consider the Big 12s renewed commitment Wednesday to moving forward with all fall sports.
Ultimately, our student-athletes have indicated their desire to compete in the sports they love this season, commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in a statement, and it is up to all of us to deliver a safe, medically sound, and structured academic and athletic environment for accomplishing that outcome.
The Big 12 is revamping college football schedules to include nine conference games plus one non-conference matchup.

(57,073 posts)I'll bet many feel pressured to play. This is just wrong.

(7,447 posts)doesn't mean they should, but a lot of the pressure on university presidents includes coming from the players.
Well then, I won't feel so badly if they start gettibg sick. 😏

(29,243 posts)and very physically fit... they feel indestructible.
Unfortunately for them, the virus doesn't give a damn.
Most will not die, but a significant percentage will end up with permanent lung damage, heart damage, kidney damage.
And they will have the rest of their lives to wish they hadn't been allowed to play.

(7,447 posts)simply saying it's not necessarily the case that a large number of them "feel pressure to play."
Most of them want to play.

(3,816 posts)Nebraska is looking to jump back to the Big 12 from the Big 10. I expect a lot of Big 10 and Pac 12 players to transfer to schools that are still playing, assuming they will have immediate eligibility.

(183,019 posts)But Id misread the headline. They expanded proposed schedules to include other SEC schools.
I read somewhere that Nebraska really wants to still play and Ive heard a rumor that Ohio State might be fishing around too.

(65,401 posts)Well other than:
4 teams are in Texas where positivity is 24.2%.
2 are from OK, where the rate is 9.2.
2 are from KS, where the rate is 11.4.
And Iowa State is from a state with a rate of 9.8.
That's 9 teams with the states averaging (nonweighted for population) 16.15%.
The states in the big 10 have a way lower average positivity, and they pushed everything back.
Remember, these decision makers are university level educators!
Think about that!
