BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Wednesday night address is largely being panned nationwide. At issue: his comparison of Martin County opening schools to an operation by Navy Seals. Navy Seals are highly trained warriors who operate using plans and intelligence. DeSantis’ idea of an intelligent plan is forcing Florida schools to open in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic or incur a massive reduction in state education funds.

Here’s the text of DeSantis’ speech getting attention:

“Martin County Superintendent Laurie Gaylord told me she viewed re-opening her schools as a mission akin to a Navy SEAL operation. Just as the SEALs surmounted obstacles to bring Osama bin Laden to justice, so too would the Martin County School system find a way to provide parents with a meaningful choice of in-person instruction or continued distance learning.”

“I would caution decision makers to understand the value – but also the limitations – of some of the data that gets published.”

DeSantis’ televised address ran simultaneously to a Palm Beach County School Board meeting in which members stated they felt forced to open for in-person learning promptly — fearing DeSantis would withhold hundreds of thousands of dollars in education funds.
