Dolly Parton has once again reminded us why we should all aspire to be more like Dolly Parton.
In a new Billboard cover story, the country legend shared her support for Black Lives Matter and the recent uprisings against police brutality and white supremacy. She also spoke candidly about her own mortality and the importance of drawing up a will.
On the topic of BLM, the 74-year-old proved that shes definitely aligned with the times and fully onboard with the protests that have carried on since George Floyds murder at the hands of Minneapolis police. I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen, said Parton. And of course, Black lives matter. Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No! The Queen of Nashville has officially spoken.
Parton also engaged in a discussion about how racist monuments and other antiquated Confederacy statues have been taken down in the last few months. The iconic artist actually did something similar in 2018, when she renamed her Dixie Stampede Civil War-themed attraction to Dolly Partons Stampede. Although she was clearly ahead of her time The Dixie Chicks only changed their name this past June Parton admitted that she was guilty of innocent ignorance back then.

(79,301 posts)it's amazing they were not aware of so many popular artists -- even artists well known in the AA community like Outkast.
However, I give them props for educating themselves and appreciating great music.

(25,976 posts)She's worked so hard all her life, and it shows in a stellar career and in all of her other endeavors, including the Imagination Library. She is so genuine and giving and I just love her to bits.
If you've never seen her appearances on Graham Norton (including the time he visited her at Dollywood) run over to YouTube and watch. It's hilarious.
I would love to grow up to be Dolly Parton - not the singing star or the movie star or the rich and famous Dolly, but the warm, honest, kind, and generous Dolly. She's the best.

(81,240 posts)"Jolene" hooked me on Dolly Parton, too. That was my first exposure to her music. The evening jock on the FM rocker that all the hip kids listened to (KMET-FM) played it one night. It's a great song! And as our two young hosts noted - it's one of those story-telling songs that's seriously compelling. And I loved how they were bobbing along to the rhythm - just like I did whenever I heard it (and I was bobbing along all over again, just now, right along with them, as this video played)!
Looks like these are two more dudes whom Dolly melted. That list just keeps on growing ever larger...

(31,233 posts)absolutely right about Dolly's story telling abilities. Being a black preacher's kid, and growing up in a strict pentecostal environment, we were only permitted to listen to gospel music (as far as my Dad knew). It was really funny, but as soon as he left the house in the morning, my mother would switch over to the local country music station hoping to hear some Patsy Cline before my Dad came back. She loved Patsy Cline's music. I can just picture my Dad's face if he had walked in and heard Patsy singing..."I go out walking after midnight".
I'm proud of these young men for being open to new experiences, and not being music snobs.
