'The political challenge of her life': Maine Sen. Susan Collins trailing in bid for 5th term, polls

Republican Sen. Susan Collins' bid for a fifth term could be in jeopardy, according to recent polls.

A survey of 500 registered Maine voters released Tuesday by the Bangor Daily News found the incumbent trailing her opponent Sara Gideon, the state's Democratic House speaker, 35%-43%. Gideon's lead shrunk to five percentage points among likely voters.

Another poll released Tuesday, which was conducted by RMG Group, also found Collins trailing Gideon by 7 points among registered voters, 41%-48%.

And a Quinnipiac University poll released Aug. 6 found Gideon leading Collins 47%-43% among registered Maine voters.

With Biden at the helm and with Democrats controlling Congress - with the Senate filibuster dead - we could cure a lot of the damage Trump has done.

Sue Collins ran on term limits. It was her "selling feature". She lied. What we got was the anti-Margaret Chase Smith.

No one should be in an office near that long...even the ones that have correct politics. I think part of Congress' problems is the dinosaurs.

centerpiece for her initial election. After that, it was a Mitch McConnell decision on how she voted. A total waste. Hell, I'd have voted for Olympia Snowe over this slug. Olympia wouldn't be playing ball with the Organized Crime Party.

the rest got to DC, tasted what power they had (if any), and never considered going back home.

I can't think of any other Republican issue that I could agree with, but term limits was one.

I guess where I get most annoyed is with the ones that cling to their seats forever and into advanced age...Thurmond, Byrd, Grassley, Feinstein, Hatch, Leahy, Sanders, etc. There have been lots of them.

The Catholic church has it right...when a cardinal or archbishop hits 75, send the Pope your resignation.

She should have retired and left on her own terms. Her legacy will now be becoming a toady for Trump and for allowing Brett Kavanaugh to jack her around.
