A Northeast Portland resident spotted a worker removing mailboxes earlier this month. USPS confirmed they're removing some mailboxes.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Several Portland viewers contacted KGW on Aug. 13 after several Twitter and Facebook posts went viral of someone removing U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mailboxes earlier in the week.

KGW has confirmed with a USPS spokesperson four boxes have been removed from Portland streets, and 27 others have been removed from Eugene.

They say the boxes are being moved from locations that have multiple mailboxes right next to each other. The spokesperson added there has been a decline in first class mail volume since the pandemic began, and confirmed to Willamette Week the order came from USPS headquarters last week.

Mailboxes have been being removed/relocated for awhile now. Where I am, we went through this years ago. Also, I asked my mailman about the mail. He told me not as much mail, but lots of packages and that was before DeJoy became postmaster.
