Paul Ryan Booed Repeatedly At AARP For Attacking Obamacare

Paul Ryan drew boos speaking to the AARP by attacking Obamacare and pledging to repeal it.

"The first step to a stronger Medicare is to repeal Obbamacare," he said to a shower of jeers. "I had a feeling there would be mixed reaction, so let me get into it. It weakens medicare for today's seniors and puts it at risk for the next generation. First, it funnels $716 billion out of Medicare to pay for a new entitlement we didn't even ask for. Second, it puts 15 unelected bureaucrats in charge of medicare's future."

Ryan was booed repeatedly as he continued to attack the bill, especially after he said the law "turned Medicare into a piggy bank for Obamacare."

Ryan has included the same $716 billion savings from Medicare in his own budgets. Repealing the Affordable Care Act would take away current benefits for seniors included in the law, most notably an end to the "donut hole" that used to require seniors to pay more out of pocket for prescription drugs.

This is without a doubt the most unfriendly audience Ryan has spoken to as VP candidate. Audience alterantes between silence and boos. Retweeted by Markos Moulitsas

Little twerp. Did he actually think he could address the AARP convention and everyone would believe/agree with him? Romney probably sent him in his place because the boos for him would make him look worse than it already is.

You know it's one thing to be 'brave' and go in front of an audience and tell them a truth that they maybe don't want to hear.

It's another thing all together to go punch someone in the face even if you think they deserve it (metaphorically speaking).

Well, this little stunt won't do much for their campaign momentum, will it?

I guess they don't care. They'll make money either way - individual mandate under Obamacare, vouchers under Ryancare.

Old joke from The Simpsons: "What's the area in the library that's always filled with the elderly? Um, periodicals! That's it."

My grandpa was sharp as a tack until he passed at 98. Even though we'd moved him up from Florida to a tiny town in Virginia, within weeks he was up on local politics.

I'd make a sincere wish for Team Romney to keep on, steady as she goes, but I'm certain they'll continue to "misunderestimate" group after group after group at their peril.
