Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) defended Sen. Kamala Harris on Sunday, saying that despite Democratic Party infighting over policy proposals, a majority of progressives understand the importance of defeating President Donald Trump come November.
Sanders spoke highly of Joe Bidens vice presidential pick, noting that shes incredibly smart [and] incredibly tough.
I think she's an asset for the Biden campaign, and I think she's going to do great on the campaign trail, he said of the California senator on ABCs This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
But some progressives particularly those who supported Sanders in the 2016 and 2020 Democratic primaries disagreed with the decision to pick Harris, some citing her prosecutorial past as an issue, saying it doesnt meet the moment with Black Lives Matter protests in full swing.

(1,351 posts)A poster with a candy bar labeled "BIDEN/HARRIS" on the left and a piece of dog poop labeled "TRUMP/PENCE" on the right. Underneath the BIDEN/HARRIS candy bar:
"Ugh, I hate nougats"
"Kit-Kats are so much better"
"No sustainably sourced options?"
"What about all the harmful chemicals and preservatives?"
"Forcing us to choose between candy bars and healthy snacks is false framing."
"Why aren't any nuts represented? What about inclusion?"
Under the TRUMP/PENCE dog poop:
"Literally oozed out of a dog sphincter"
And that's the difference in a nutshell. Right-wing will vote for dog poop, progressives will be nitpick everything that isn't perfect.

(25,711 posts)He says things like (earlier this year): "I have news for the Republican establishment. I have news for the Democratic establishment. They can't stop us." Both sides! Talk of rigging and corruption, of the Democratic establishment meeting in back rooms with wealthy donors bribing them with delicious canapes, an enemies list. His former national press secretary (as in the article) says the Democratic Party shows contempt for BLM by choosing a "'top cop' and the author of the Joe Biden crime bill" (which of course Sanders voted for).
Their problem isn't that Sanders ran against Biden. It's that they were told nefarious secret conspiracies were going on and believed them. Naturally it's confusing to be told that everything's okay now. They'll have to try to resist the lure of dramatic tales of how Joe and Kamala are big racists who want to throw everybody in jail. Stay with 2020 reality.
