Sure, suppressing the vote is a great side benefit, but the real win is to get their hands on the “health” funds. The USPS is supposed to be putting way $5 billion each year in order to pay for the health benefits of employees 75 years out. No other business has to do that, so of course they’re losing money.

Suppose the USPS is privatized. Whoever buys it gets the “health” funds to, essentially, do with as they wish. For instance they can reinvest it in the company. In which case the company will have so much cash that they can pay the shareholders fat dividends. This is how the Russians did it when they privatized their industries—making many an oligarch in the process. And of course Trump likes that action.
