DNC Chair Tom Perez said that the handful of 2020 presidential caucuses should be the last the party ever holds, the AP reports.
He didnt specifically name Iowa, which for decades has led off the nominating calendar, but his position would represent a seismic shift in the partys traditions.

(14,565 posts)I think Obama's net delegate advantage from caucuses was greater than his net delegate advantage overall. I'm not going to look it up. I just remember he won an extraordinary number of delegates per actual voter in those caucus states. Essentially Obama won the nomination via dominating the par 3 states while Hillary dominated the par 5 states.
I lived in Nevada for 24 years and never participated in a caucus. I do regret it now but at the time I was so busy betting sports for high denomination it would have felt like opportunity cost to give away an entire day during college basketball season.

(17,380 posts)primary. If people want to meet in caucuses and discuss politics, have fun, but they should never again be used to select a single Democratic delegate, they are a disgrace.

Yes, money. Candidates spent $300 million in Iowa and got absolutely nothing.

(94,604 posts)...in he sense that he can't make the Iowa Government implement a State Primary. The only option is to have a Party sponsored event that works like a Primary.
