DNC Chair Wants to End Caucuses

DNC Chair Tom Perez said that the handful of 2020 presidential caucuses should be the last the party ever holds, the AP reports.

“He didn’t specifically name Iowa, which for decades has led off the nominating calendar, but his position would represent a seismic shift in the party’s traditions.”

I think Obama's net delegate advantage from caucuses was greater than his net delegate advantage overall. I'm not going to look it up. I just remember he won an extraordinary number of delegates per actual voter in those caucus states. Essentially Obama won the nomination via dominating the par 3 states while Hillary dominated the par 5 states.

I lived in Nevada for 24 years and never participated in a caucus. I do regret it now but at the time I was so busy betting sports for high denomination it would have felt like opportunity cost to give away an entire day during college basketball season.

primary. If people want to meet in caucuses and discuss politics, have fun, but they should never again be used to select a single Democratic delegate, they are a disgrace.

But why stop there? Move to rotating regional primaries.

Yes, money. Candidates spent $300 million in Iowa and got absolutely nothing.

This will prevent bullying by energized supporters of a candidate who lacks popular support and taking over the primaries.

...in he sense that he can't make the Iowa Government implement a State Primary. The only option is to have a Party sponsored event that works like a Primary.
