(5,334 posts)Then he just ruined the rest of his political career for the good of the country. That took guts, because I'm sure he knew the political risks before he decided to speak for the democrats.
Yes, he's still a republican and we can never agree with him on almost everything. But tonight, he earned my respect as a fellow American and a fellow human being.
Mr.Bill
(24,330 posts)Maybe he just wants to retire. He could also get a good cabinet position. Or who knows, maybe he will run for something as a Democrat.

I beg to differ. That isn't capitulation, that is smart political strategy

(12,449 posts)Fuck this purity bullshit, we need ALL the votes we can get to get this criminal and his gang out of the WH and if that means wooing moderate Republicans to our side, then I'll take whoever we can get.

(4,484 posts)but he did boycott his convention in 2016 despite it being in his home state of Ohio and he was quite vocal in his opposition to a Trump presidency in 2016. He was more or less ex-communicated from his own party, but he stuck to his guns.
I don't agree with him, but I respect his willingness to take an uncomfortable stance. As someone who came from an entirely Republican family, I know first-hand how hard that feeling of ostracization can be.

Buckeye_Democrat
(14,858 posts)As much as I know Ohio isn't "necessary" to win the WH, I want to see Biden win here!
And it would indeed help to overcome GOP dirty tricks around the country, help put a Biden victory in "landslide" territory, etc.
My feeling is that he indeed influenced a few "moderate" Republicans. Nothing can influence the Trump cultists, of course.

(36,747 posts)Ohio is a definite toss up.
If it drives up votes for Joe in Cuyahoga and Lucas counties, we may have a shot.

(3,836 posts)I don't like Kasich either, but I think this was a good idea. I don't trust most Republicans, but I also don't trust bigots in general regardless of their political party.
Forgiveness doesn't mean we are giving in.. we get stronger when we can embrace the future, together. And we need to be as strong as possible right now.
Trump operates out of hatred and revenge.
Biden is for unity and faith in each other.
This was a good start.

(641 posts)bears responsibility for being the proverbial frog in the pot of water. Now it it too hot and as political wonks/experts predict (and I agree), the "r" party may be relegated to the wilderness for a while, if not forever. Shrinking base - mortality and 98%+ Caucasian isn't a long term bet. Some "red" states will remain red (less populated ones west of the MS River) but some should beware of what they wish.

(14,858 posts)I'll be voting all-Democrat again this year.
Edit: If a Democratic candidate promoted flat-Earth ideas and other similar nonsense, which I haven't seen yet, then THAT might break the streak. I'd probably just not vote at all in that race, though.

I hope he'll change his mind about campaign for Biden especially in Ohio's conservative strongholds.

This attack was, of course, in support of the most "untruthful guy" ever to stain the White House.
