A proposal by Pentagon officials to slash Military Healthcare by $2.2 billion dollars has been firmly and totally rejected by me. We will do nothing to hurt our great Military professionals & heroes as long as I am your President. Thank you!

@HKrassenstein
This was a proposal by your own administration that you are now backtracking on because Biden attacked you for it.

(25,253 posts)Here's my rationale for my thoughts on this.
Trump is losing his military base of supporters. Here are just some instances where Trump has lost some of his military support:
- Using the military to attack American People that were peacefully protesting is just one of those things that Trump did that took him down notches in the eyes of the military.
- Trump not taking on Putin for the 'bounties for American Soldiers' hasn't helped Trump either.
- Firing the commander of that ship that criticized Trump's handling of the Covid outbreak on his ship.
I'm sure that there are many other examples where Trump has lost military support. These to me were the most egregious.
So Esper serving up this softball to Trump that he was going to cut Military Healthcare by $2.2 billion in my opinion was a set-up for Trump to Tweet and say:
"...he totally rejected this cut and he will do nothing to hurt our great Military professionals & heroes as long as I am your President...."
It makes him sound good - doesn't it? Trump is using Esper's set-up to sound like he really cares about the military. We all know that Trump only cares about himself. Kinda makes one serving in the military want to vote for Trump - doesn't it? That's all this is about - Trump is trolling for military votes. He's been told that his military support is waning and this was one way they thought he could stop the bleeding.
