Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTo me, the ZOOM presentation of the Democratic Convention was more effective,
at least for this year.
I felt like the speakers were connecting and speaking directly to me. No cheers, no pauses, but the direct messages.
Andrew Cuomo was speaking to me. Bernie Sanders was speaking to me. Michelle Obama was speaking to me.
I wasn't expecting that.

(42,572 posts)Gets old when every single speaker has built in applause/standing O moments. And the pre-recorded bits are really good for people who arent effective live speakers.
Maybe a hybrid model would work going forward. I know theyve had some pre-recorded stuff in past conventions, but they could do even more of that and just have a few in-person speeches from the real heavy hitters.

(43,184 posts)I still think there are a lot of intangibles that are lost by not being able to hold the convention live and in person. There's a lot of energy that's created in that setting that just doesn't come through in quiet, pre-recorded speeches. (Although Michelle Obama's speech was nearly as powerful as it was compared to how it might have been in a live setting.)
But for this year, considering the circumstances, this format is fine for the time being.
