(509 posts)Why give people like Jindal oxygen? I hadn't even heard of him for years. Now he'll probably be all over FoxNews crowing about how and AOC got in a Twitter spat. It's not necessary for AOC to respond to everyone on Twitter.

(6,143 posts)She needs to pick her battles and develop a thicker skin.
Wanderlust988
(509 posts)Can you imagine if Michelle or Barack spent their days on Twitter getting into spats with all their critics? At some point, you gotta develop a thick skin if you want to stay in politics a long time. If she has plans on being president someday, she can't be up in the White House at 3am responding to Twitter attacks like Trump. It's not cute and it's not cool.
Cetacea
(7,367 posts)How many Twitter followers does she have? I believe she is second only to tRump.

(509 posts)I don't want anymore political leaders more concerned with their Twitter followers than doing their job. We've had enough of Trump's Twitter antics. I don't want anymore leaders like this. Give me Katie Porter any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
People just follow Trump and AOC on Twitter just cause they're very active on it and they constantly get into pissing matches with their critics. It's like a car wreck, so people can't tune out. How many followers one has means absolutely nothing to me.
Mariana

(509 posts)She said last year that some members are more concerned with their Twitter followers than actual legislating. She didn't call out AOC by name but everyone knows who she was talking about.

(6,448 posts)I exaggerated his fall from leading a state and being touted as a star in the party.
They were saying how far Chris Christie and Scott Walker would go around that time too. These three clods could very well be Uber drivers today for all I know, but they're pretty much invisible to me.
DonaldsRump
(7,715 posts)However, Jindal is an honors Ivy League graduate and a Rhodes Scholar. We can tell him to go to hell and be delighted that he has disappeared from the national stage. However, to tell him to stock groceries, when there is absolutely nothing in his background to suggest that is what he has done and when this is common stereotype for Indian Americans, is, well, you know....
I am also a PoC who is a rabid, lifelong Democrat. Please carefully consider what I am saying.
CaptYossarian
(6,448 posts)That grocery remark was intended to show that he was unemployable for being a bad governor. I never once thought of the Caste system in India.
I even considered saying he was a greeter at WalMart, but I don't think they have those anymore. Even making French fries would be better.
I wanted to show how racist the GOP birthers are, not how you interpreted my flippant act of stupidity.
If you read it that way, so did others. It's coming down with my sincere apologies.
Thank you for pointing this out.

(7,715 posts)Am probably a bit too sensitive.
I despise Jindal, who is, as you correctly point out, a complete irrelevancy now.
More worrying from the Republican Indian-American community is Nikki Haley: she is nuts. I still think there is a small chance that Trump will dump Pence and pick her as his Hail Mary if his voter suppression and foreign interference efforts don't succeed. More likely, she will run in 2024. There needs to be a concerted effort to knock her down the moment the 2020 election is over.

(291 posts)Plain and simple. The old way isn't working and we are in need of a New Deal. It'd be wise of the dems not to shut her out. She is strong, mature and again the future of this party.
She understands the pure desperation we are currently in as a nation to first and foremost remove trump, after that changes must be made.
Wanderlust988
(509 posts)The Democratic electorate is left of center. She is far left. The rest of the country is not like Queens, NY. She s a valued member of the party and she has a voice in the party, but she is NOT the party. I'm proud of our party being a big tent party. And there are more people in our moderate who are pragmatic progressives than the Sanders wing.

(43,420 posts)In every other advanced nation on the planet she would be a bog standard, middle of the road social democrat. None of her policy stances would be considered 'far left' anywhere else. It is only in Republican smear machine gaslit America that she is called 'far left', and you are trying to amplify that utter tosh.

(14,858 posts)When a man attacks a young woman, she is supposed to shut up and ignore it. If she doesn't, she is criticized for "being thin-skinned" or "not knowing how to pick her battles" or some such patronizing sexist bullshit.

(10,279 posts)he left Louisiana in debt? Worst ever governor of the state. What is he doing now? I read his webpage, but he is too embarrassed to tell us what film-flam he is operating now.
Why did AOC grant him a few seconds of spotlight? Probably because she had a few seconds, and why not punch this easy target in the nuts. She is allowed some fun time. Can't work all the time.
