Kim Jong Un reportedly condemns pet ownership as a 'decadence' and orders dogs be confiscated

Kim Jong Un, North Korea's leader, is cracking down on pet ownership in the capital city of Pyongyang, according to local reports.

Decrying it as a Western "decadence" and "a 'tainted' trend by bourgeois ideology," Kim in July ordered that dogs be confiscated, an unnamed source told South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo.

"Ordinary people raise pigs and livestock on their porches, but high-ranking officials and the wealthy own pet dogs, which stoked some resentment," the source said.

Per Chosun Ilbo, the source added that "authorities have identified households with pet dogs and are forcing them to give them up or forcefully confiscating them and putting them down.''

The dogs are also being sent to zoos or sold to restaurants where dog meat is eaten, the source told Chosun Ilbo, noting that pet owners are "cursing Kim Jong Un behind his back."

This move comes as the famously secretive country reels from a food shortage and floods.

Makes me wonder whether the food shortage and confiscation of pets are somehow related.

As soon as I read the headline in GD, my Bad Brain made a bad joke. Then I read the article and my Bad Brain was right lol

Poor doggies...they didnt do nuthin to deserve this. And I'd bet that they had pretty good lives overall, being that Dear Leader called them a decadence...makes me think their humans at least had some expressional outlet for good feelings in that otherwise miserable nation.

Dear Leader cant be having anyone be too happy, now can he?
What a hateful little prick of a 'man'.

Peeps just get fed up, and then it's something STUPIDLY simple (like banning dogs--wtf, by the way) that ends up being the outlet for everything that has come before, and been tolerated.

Dear Leader had better tread carefully haha.

Send Judge Judy after him, too. She hates animal abusers.

I love my dogs, even when they are pains in our collective asses.

Unfortunately, Walt Disney didn't like cats. He was into dogs. Ironically, cats are what keep the rat problem in check at the theme parks.
