Paul Ryan's 2005 remarks to the Ayn Rand fan club, The Atlas Society, are full of weird for sophisticated political readers, but terms like "collectivist" and "socialist" are a little too esoteric to carry the right impact.
What matters isn't that he's a certifiable tin-foil case, but merely this:
Social Security right now is a collectivist system, its a welfare transfer system.
Social Security is Welfare.
Social Security is Welfare. Social Security is Welfare. Social Security is Welfare.
Its the perfect dove-tail with the 47% tape.
Every Republican running for anything needs to be asked whether they agree with Paul Ryan that Social Security is Welfare.
Running ads against VP candidate is usually "punching down," but a Florida ad alternating "Social Security is Welfare" with "senior on the street" reactions would do some good.
It plays as a very pointed personal attack on social security recipients. And delightful judo... I would bet that the "Obama is putting everyone on welfare" ads have their greatest impact with older voters who also happen to be on social security.
