(269,225 posts)The good news is both storms should not be more than Cat 1s - let's hope they don't slow down

(17,665 posts)At least I don't have to pack the pantry with non-refrigerated foods. The virus has that under control. Out tomorrow to buy gasoline for the generators. (when the power is off, so is the water) I am at the end of a long and poorly maintained electrical and phone grid, so no power an no internet is not uncommon, even in the best of days.
I have lived in Florida almost 70 years, the drill is nothing new. I built my house with a hip roof to withstand strong winds so unless I get a tornado, we are fine. The cat IV storm we had two years ago lifted maybe a dozen shingles. There was a tornado that came through during the hurricane that knocked down hundreds of trees. It's path of destruction started about 50 yards from my house, so that was too close for comfort. We have a "hard room" inside the house if things get rough.
The hurricane parties will being planned, down the road, at FSU and FAMU dorms, and outside housing. Sunday all of the large retailers will be packed with last minute preppers picking up essentials. (alcohol, cigarettes, pizza and chips) Many newcomers will be all excited about the storm, like it is some kind of sporting event.
