(11,105 posts)Biden's strength is his empathy. He understands pain because he's been through it w/ his first wife and daughter, and with Beau. The country is in pain right now, and more than a firebrand, what we need is someone who cares.

(11,753 posts)The compassion and empathy are big. Biden is a decent person and after Trump we will need decency more than ever. Bernie is also a decent man and I actually am more aligned with some of Bernie's policies than Joe's, but temperamentally, I do think that there is WAY less to attack Biden on than Bernie. I will say it again, Lindsay Graham said, "If you don't like Joe Biden, something is wrong with you". Bernie is more polarizing because he is more fired up about getting his policy prescriptions through. Bernie cares about people too. He has compassion and decency. He is a lot rougher around the edges personality wise though.
The other things about Biden that are critical right now is that Biden lacks a fragile ego. We have a narcissist in office. Trump is lead by his desire to avoid humiliation and project power. He is a scared little boy. Joe Biden was able to play second fiddle to a Black man and grew to become great friends with a younger man who out shone him. He has worked with people he disagreed with. He wasn't looking for notoriety and fame. He can lead AND he can listen. He will put together advisors AND he will take their advice.
Biden can be bold and he can be safe. We all know his gaffes and his peculiarities, but they aren't the same as the serious character deficits of Trump AND they aren't even as problematic as say McCain's "Bomb bomb Iran" or Bush Jr's being a dufus. Biden's flaws are almost ingratiating. They make him, "Uncle Joe". With Kamala Harris by his side providing her intellect and fire, they are what America needs to recover from these last four years of hell.

(18,672 posts)She's been on vacation for 2 weeks and I assume she timed it so she could watch the Democratic Convention. I can't wait until Monday to see her joy in person.

(24,784 posts)Fascinating to think of all the times Joe has run before...and yet this is the perfect time for him! He's been consistent over DECADES, and his personal character PLUS his policy agenda are just right at this moment. One doesn't see this all that often.
And Kamala is such a perfect counterpoint to him.
Jill Biden is simply value-added. What a great advocate - I learned so much about her this week.
Hopeful, optimistic, committed, FIRED UP!

(24,334 posts)I would say it about her. Six months of basically living in an 800 sq ft mobile home and only leaving to get groceries and walk our dogs, and neither of us has once raised our voice to each other. I would have never guessed it would work out this well, yet I should have.

(5,153 posts)There was a time when we respected our elders not cast them aside.
Biden is perfect for this moment in our history when we need to restore our
dignity, our faith in our Story, the best of who we are.
I am grateful Joe and his family are making this sacrifice for us. This is about us,
not him. And with Harris on the ticket, we have the best of both.
I could not be happier with our nominees.

(2,960 posts)at a Drinking Liberally meetup. Any other election, I would not have gone with Joe. But as noted above, he is the person given the times. To beat a SOB, you need your own SOB (I liked Cobert's doctored lawn sign). And Harris, she's the kind of woman to give Trump anxiety attacks.

(11,387 posts)This election is virtually 100% about Trump (nothing more or less) -- and Biden is the perfect anti-Trump. Your "middle of the road" or "I'm not real political" friends wont have any trouble at all pulling the lever for Biden/Harris.

(27,641 posts)Joe will want to compromise with the right and forget the recent past. It's the same huge mistake that Obama made during most of his 8 years in office. You can't compromise with someone who has a deliberate intention of not compromising with you.
But along comes Kmala. Hopefully she, along with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, will provide the balance we need.

(7,220 posts)Don't get me wrong, I wanted Harris, but being from CA had me very worried at first.
She hit it out the park this week. Her story is 100% the story of America, and her qualifications are second to none. I'm actually tearing up as I write this.
They are absolutely the right ticket for this point in America.

Some dreams do come true. One more, Lord, on November 3...just one more, please.
