MOSCOW Without the slightest premonition of any issues with his health, Pyotr Verzilov, a Russian opposition activist, suddenly fell violently ill two years ago and slipped into a coma, a common problem for opponents of the Kremlin.
Mr. Verzilov, who is known for staging antigovernment performance art, displayed the same, mysterious symptoms that struck Aleksei Navalny, Russias most prominent opposition politician, on Thursday as he was on a flight to Moscow.
I was in exactly the same condition, Mr. Verzilov said in an interview Thursday with Rain TV, an independent Russian television station, of his monthlong illness in 2018.
Mr. Verzilov was kept alive on a ventilator and later flown to Germany for treatment. Though doctors found no trace of poison, he said that he is convinced it was the cause, and that the Kremlin was responsible.
Poison, though redolent of medieval intrigue, has been a favored tool of Russian intelligence agencies for more than a century. And critics of the Kremlin and independent analysts say the weapon remains in use today. While other countries, including the United States and Israel, have targeted killing programs, they are strictly limited to counterterrorism efforts. Russia, by contrast, has been accused of targeting a wide variety of opponents both at home and abroad.

You're really not very smart, are you?

(51,644 posts)or is he waiting for telltale signs of the poison to be gone first?
This gives me hope that he will make it out of his coma, but if he can't get to Germany I am not so sure.

(2,042 posts)Yes, Putin wanted to get rid of a vocal critic, but did he also want to display his talent for poisoning political opponents to his protegé Trump??? We all know Trump would do ANYTHING to win the election. And he has shown himself more than willing to accept Putin's help in winning. I would not put it past him to welcome Putin's help in dispatching Biden, especially now that Trump is doing so very badly in the polls.
I'm sure the Bidens, the Harrises, and the Secret Service are well aware of the threat, but I'm still worried for their safety.
And, now that I think of it, could it be that Putin is showing Trump that he could poison Trump, too, if he gets out of line??? Is that why Trump only eats McDonald's takeout??? Just watch him start getting someone to taste all of his food for him!
