Record amounts of red meat and pork were produced in August, according to new USDA data.

Commercial red meat production for the United States totaled 4.39 billion pounds in August, up 2 percent from the 4.30 billion pounds produced in August 2011.

That is a record, the USDA says.

and it most certainly is harmful to the animals (if you've ever seen slaughter houses, they are cruel visions of hell on earth for creatures).

Meanwhile, back on teh farm, people keep getting cancer (beef is linked to cancer causation) and more obese (let's face it...most people don't eat the lean meats...they eat processed foods and McDonald burgers).

It makes no sense.

Cattle went to market early because the cost of feeding and watering them went way up.

4. You miss the point. The solution to cattle cost is not to slaughter them.

That's how it's always been. Food and water become expensive - slaughter your cattle.

Go argue with them.

I told him it was due to slaughtering huge numbers of animals because of the
drought and cost of feed and he just looked at me like I was from outer space.
