Making the Republicans' voter suppression backfire

Who wants to see the Republicans' voter suppression tactics actually work for them? What would that look like?

Picture people going to the polls to vote. They take time before going to work or to class. They take time from doing their chores or visiting their family or friends. They drive, they get rides. They walk or manage crutches or wheel in in wheelchairs. And they get there to exercise their right to vote. But then someone tells them they can't. They have to leave.

And the Republicans who made that happen have big smiles on their faces, because it worked. They are glad they did it. They will definitely have to do it again.

Or.

Every single non-Republican makes sure they vote and makes sure all their friends vote and all their friends' friends. For every voter the Republicans succeed in intimidating away from the polls or denying the right to vote at the polls, ten or twenty other voters cast votes against every Republican on the ballot.

2. It's so very enraging.

I just don't understand how they keep trying to get away with this year after year.

I whined about it in a post earlier today and just feel that GOTV despite their efforts only makes them more determined to keep plugging away at it.

Eventually someone's going to get hurt. That's my fear.

As in Occupy the Vote...

Also, a silent vote of thanks to the brave, ingenious person who placed the camera among the asparagus..and recorded Mitt's 47% remarks.

5. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do if someone gets denied when I'm at the polling place.

Do I stand by and say, "Well, voter suppression worked..."

I know the people at my polling place, they're neighbors. It's always polite, friendly, casual.

But if there's some right-wing geek checking ID's who turns down a voter for some technicality, all bets are off...

7. Voting In Our "Democracy"

The blatant suppression moves are egregious, fake ID voting fraud is virtually a non issue.

But voting overall in the US is incredibly tamper ready. It is so under reported here.

Computers can be jiggered with, it's been proven. There are custody issues when computers aren't used.

The way to do it would be to use paper ballots, all monitored all the way through counting, witnesses by all parties and a third non partisan. It should be video recorded. No vote flipping, no votes thrown in the trash, no custody issues at all.

I'm reasonably sure Bush-Kerry was flipped as well as the Cleland-Demint senate race. All polls before and during showed Kerry and Cleland comfortably winning but the vote had Bush and Demint up the same amount. Of course the polling was blamed.

This isn't rocket science, fix it. Voting in the US should be easy to do and the results should be 100% trustworthy.

8. Repiglickin Teabaggers Will be Counting the Votes in 27 States with 270 Electoral Votes

We hear that the election will most likely come down to Florida and Ohio AGAIN. And maybe Virginia.
Teabaggers are in control in all of those states. In 2008, Ohio and Virginia had Democratic governors and secretaries-of-state.

But Ohio, Florida, and Virginia are only the tip of the iceberg. In Pennsylvania, the state house fell to the Republicans in the 2010 onslaught and voter suppression is in full swing there, putting what should be a solidly blue state in play.

The same is going on in every other state they control, a total of 27 states with 270 electoral votes.
