Do you honestly think a jury could be impaneled to convict trump of political crimes?

This question was posed in a response to one of my posts yesterday. And it is a good question.

But for me, the larger question is, does the US operate under the rule of law, or not?

And that question can be answered yes and no. In many cases, there is one law for the rich, and one for the rest of us.

There is one law for the whites, and one for the (now) majority of the US.

There is law for men, and another law for women.

However, these things aside, I feel that Trump, and his crime family, and their associates, should feel the pressure of the Justice Department, at the Federal and local levels, for as long as they all live.

They should all spend their days conferring with their attorneys, and raising funds, and trying to hide their assets, and in general suffering for the rest of their lives.

No, this would not bring back one victim of COVID19, or truly compensate the many victims of Trump's various crimes, but he and his cabal need to live with stress and pressure forever.

2. Let the SDNY go after him and his business.

He can't get out of that kind of trouble. Plus it costs his worthless kids money too.

3. State or federal?

Little chance he leaves office without federal immunity. Have felt for a long time if he loses badly itís possible he will resign before the inauguration and Pence will pardon him for any crimes he may have committed in office. That doesnít cover state charges, though.

7. I can't see him actually going to prison

I can see a lot of people who worked for him going to prison.

I can see his kids going to prison

I can definitely see him getting hit with serious civil/tax fines and penalties.

But a unanimous criminal jury verdict, no. Even if caught dead to rights on something completely apolitical, there's going to be at least one, probably more like three or four, jury holdouts who will either believe him or accept reasonable doubt or be convinced there was something corrupt about the prosecution or simply that they figure presidents shouldn't ever go to prison.

8. Nor can I.

But he hates to be shamed, and laughed at. And the stress would be brutal.

11. Don't disagree

but there is still no such thing as a "political crime" in our system.

12. Just get rid of him, he'll die soon anyway

What matters is getting rid of him. The real deterrent for future frauds will be the total disgrace which will surely follow Trump to his grave. 20 years from now his descendants will be in court petitioning to change their last names.
