She still needed a loving father. She is lucky that she never grew up with his influence, but it had to hurt to grow up feeling constantly rejected by your own father.

I would feel some pity for his older children if they had rejected him in favor of their mother, but they have seem to have become carbon copies of him in order to gain his approval. It's just such a sick, sad situation all around.
