Saw This Tonight And Had To Share

A good friend of mine re-posted this on FB so I'm not sure who wrote it, but it touches on a lot of issues & I really liked it.

Just a note for my right leaning family and friends from my left leaning self as we near voting day:

They say we want to disband police departments (and that we hate the police): we don’t, that’s a lie. We want to weed out racism and unnecessary police brutality and for those who abuse their power to be held accountable.

They say we want to release all prisoners: we don’t, that’s a lie. We want to weed out racism and ensure the punishments match the crimes and to deprivatize prisons.

They say we want open borders: we don’t, that’s a lie. We want asylum seekers to be given their chance to seek asylum. We want to help people who are coming from unimaginable terror and poverty help to give them the chances we have. We want to ensure children aren’t separated from their parents and that nobody is kept in cages. But we do want proper vetting.

They say we want to take away your guns: we don’t, that’s a lie. We want logical gun control to help prevent mass shootings.

They say we want to wage a war on Christianity and Christian values: we don’t, that’s a lie. We want people of all religions to be able to practice and worship freely.

They say we want to get everything for free: we don’t, that’s a lie. We want to work hard and make sure that healthcare and education are affordable for all.

They say we want a war against traditional marriage: we don’t, that’s a lie. We want people of all sexual orientations to be able to love freely, no matter who you love.

They say we want to destroy or rewrite history: we don’t, that’s a lie. We want to recognize the ugly parts of our past and do everything we can to say “that’s not okay, let’s not honor those aggressors, let’s not let those things happen again”.

They say we want to take away your constitutional rights: we don’t, that’s a lie. We choose to believe science and wear masks and try to prevent the spread of this disease.

They say we hate America: we don’t, that’s a lie. We just recognize our faults and want us to do better, be better.

Stop with the us vs. them. Stop with the straw man arguments. Stop with the fake news. Stop with fox news. Our position is one of empathy, compassion and logic. Stop believing the hype. Stop with the division. Just because we want equality for all doesn’t mean we want to take anything away from you.

before they can comprehend it. They have the reading skills of their Dear Leader. I taught 6 years olds how to read for many years and they have the desire to learn, unlike the deplorables.

10 eloquently stated points I'd like to share further. I'm posting your post to my Twitter feed, I have no BookFace account since it became a brawl zone with the RW'ers 11 years ago now after President Obama was elected, a few RWNJ's I knew on there posted racist memes, I kindly asked them to stop, immediately I got ganged up on and sent thousands of insults and threats, overnight. I had to completely re-invent my online persona and presence except for here. I haven't done BookFace since.
Not that the intended recipients of this enlightenment would likely reap any reality-shaking revelations from this. But it is nicely concise criticism.

8. They won't say it; they may be consciously unaware of it,

but the people who believe all those lies resent having their privilege,
advantages and power diminished -- which is what equality and justice
will do, indirectly. All a politician (i.e a demagogue) has to do is appeal
to their anger and fear (which Trump is masterful at doing) in order to
gain their vote. Fear will persuade people to believe the most insanely
twisted bullshit -- such as, "They want to destroy the suburbs, disband
the police, and release all prisoners." Really? You believe that shit?

That is why they respond indignantly with "White lives matter, too!"
whenever BLM is brought up. The underlying message is this:
"How dare you exclude us!?" "What about me and my status?" "How can
you disrupt the natural order of things, our caste system?" which is really
just a poorly disguised form of apartheid.

Black America stands up to defend their rights to live and exist in equality;
White America distorts it as a hostile act, an attack on them, and a threat
because they feel negated.

America is an apartheid nation -- period. That is the issue since Jim Crow.
Anyone who can't understand that, in our current social structure, black lives
matter LESS -- or not at all -- is in denial of reality. You cannot fix a problem
until you can admit there is a problem. It is easier to live in a delusion, though.

11. I'm plumb out of patience these days

so when some blowhard is spouting off, I just fix him (usually a him) with a gelid stare and say, "You BOUGHT that? Good god." Then I walk away. If I'm in a particularly bad mood I'll twiddle a finger next to my temple while I do it.

I've had it with these people. They have a legal right to be disinformed jerks. They don't have a right to tacit approval.
