MSNBC’s Chuck Todd and The New York Times’ Peter Baker analogized scandals like President Donald Trump’s current coronavirus-related political difficulties and alleged comments about U.S. war dead to the intense coverage of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server four years ago.

Much of the media’s reaction to the blockbuster Bob Woodward recordings — which revealed that Trump knew in early February that the virus was much more deadly than the seasonal flu, yet continued to “downplay” the threat — has centered around gaming out the political effect of deceiving the American people about a pandemic that has killed over 190,000 of them.

important thing ever. In fact Hillary most likely lost the election because of the stupid laptop with bunch of emails on it that Comey felt the need to inform the congress about. Is he now saying emails weren't important?

12. First of all, I think it is fair to say that she undoubtedly lost the election for that reason.

Second, Comey didn't need to tell Congress, he wanted to. And it wasn't something that he had any right to do.

Comey's position was extraordinary: Any time they came across a new computer belonging to someone who at some point in their life been sent an email by Hillary Clinton they were in the presence of a potential crime scene. That was an insane point-of-view.

11. The statements aren't comparing the emails and drumpf statements

In terms of how bad they are. They were comparing the effect on the campaign that Hillary was forced to constantly defend herself instead of playing offense on her campaign just as drumpf is back on his heels defending himself now.

The analogy is entirely accurate even if it leaves out the the attacks on Hillary were an act of right wing fiction and those on drumpf are completely accurate.

17. Hillary lost because of her email scandal. So, I hope Chuck is right.

Hillary experienced a death by a thousand cuts from the email scandal four years ago. It allowed for Trump, justifiable or not, to deflect from his own awful self and have the campaign turn into a referendum on Hillary. You can debate what role the media played but that absolutely killed her campaign. It was the single biggest issue, even if it wasn't fair and this line of attack is.

It sucks but the reality is that the email scandal sunk Hillary.
