Good News from Gallup

There was a BIG jump in Obama approval yesterday in the 3-day rolling average approval tracking poll. Being a twitchy 3-day poll it was quite questionable whether that was news driven, or just some random noise that would quickly show some "reversion to the mean."

But todays number is even a little better than yesterday. Approval/Disapproval 51-42%.

At this point in the election Obama's approval number is not entirely about Obama. Late in the game, people tend to have their voting preference and approval rating match up, so if Romney peed his pants on TV Obama's job approval would probably rise somewhat. I think the 47% tape may be what is being picked up on here.

(This does not mean Gallup's election tracking poll will move to 51-42%. The approval poll is all adults, not likely voters, and given Gallup's voter sampling I don't expect the election tacking poll to ever make it over Obama by 4-5%)
