Latinos in Florida. Construction workers in Ohio. Have I mentioned Latinos in Florida yet? Again?
Vote securely, support Democrats, give money and time when you can.
We will not change the minds of the Trumpublicans. Focus on Independents and new voters. I know many people who have changed their minds and will vote for Biden and Ill bet you do, too.
Focus!

(63,221 posts)This has been one of the most depressing days on DU ever! I'm taking a break to watch some funny movies. I can't deal with this negativity.

(6,150 posts)I watched Princess and the Frog.
And felt SO MUCH BETTER!
I didn't realize it was because DU was depressing the shit out of me.
I just knew that I needed to shut it down.

But, might I also gently suggest, that we support, and yes, "allow" those who need to come here to vent their fears and grief to do so.

i'm still worried about the vote counters, but i see the election protection that is being stood up all over the country.

(1,159 posts)In this bizarro world where Trump is President of the United States and STILL commands 80+ percent of the white, evangelical, dependable voters; where right-wingers control the Senate and most of our appellate courts (which have systematically gutted the Voting Rights Act), it is understandable that some of our members are voicing their fears, concerns, and nightmares about the future of our country.
I have no idea whether doom and gloom helps to suppress the vote because voters feel no hope and thus stay home, or that it somehow inspires people to get off their asses and vote because they know their one vote can make a difference. I suspect, though, that calling people "concern trolls" or "worry warts" ultimately does little to help the Democratic cause.
ihas2stinkyfeet
(1,400 posts)those voters are dropping like flies.
but if i run into a single voter that didnt show up cuz of this sort of crap, i.will.be.pissed.

(1,351 posts)Same hand wringing and worrying posts were here during Obama election 2008 and 2012, yet the outcome was different. Its like living in CA and predicting an earthquake every single dayeventually you will be right.
Im stating all this from the standpoint of a professional hand wringer. Im TERRIFIED of another Trump Presidency so when I read too many doom and gloom threads I can get myself in a state of almost sheer panic. That is why I so appreciate those who write the we can do this threads! It doesnt make me complacentwhich I think is the fear of someit just makes me less insane.
Not saying people arent allowed to post negative or doom and gloom threads, its a discussion forum after all, but I feel I need to give a major shout out to the positive posters. Those posts energize me, too much negativity drains me. I need all the energy I have to fight for a Biden win.

(1,159 posts)Maybe the true enemy is complacency. Whether due to elation when our candidate is ahead, or doom and gloom when our candidate is behind, let us never sit on our laurels til the race is done.

(1,351 posts)But it seems like every positive post will inevitably have some commenting about we cant be complacent! Or too early to celebrate!... Having hope doesnt equate to complacency, but so many seem to feel the need to damp down any enthusiasm out of the mistaken view that it means people will assume Biden has it in the bag. After 2016 no one is assuming anything!

(14,978 posts)doomy bc of Russia, convid, and potential vile drumphists trying to scare off voters in key areas who show up instead of mailing in their vote ( I checked and know I'm registered. An apt building aquaintence and I both got knocked off in the NYS primary decades ago at the same time). I have to get my absentee ballot.
And then I'm nuetral, and sometimes positive when I hear good news. So that's where I'm at currently.

They are loud because they are a losing minority and trying to look bigger than they are.
Do something to get out the vote or help realize BLM goals and stop feeding them!

(166 posts)I understand that some people are still in shock over 2016 but this is a new year and a new election. I am all for being real about our prospects, but things look very good for us right now. I encourage everyone that is nervous to donate to our candidates and volunteer. We are way more motivated than we were in 2016 and the Deplorables know it which is why they want to stop us from voting. Don't get discouraged.
I got to agree with the OP. It does seem that even if 4 polls came out that all had Biden up 70 to 30 on Trump someone would dig into the specifics of one of the polls and post a thread titled "Biden Under Performing with Lithuanian Barbers Who Have Less Than 3 Kids"
