He is trying to have it both ways. All he is doing is confusing people. Like arguing that in theory we would have a lot of doses by November and that we should trust the fda approval process.
Anybody with a brain can see that the fda has been coopted by political appointees.

(6,085 posts)I am sick and tired of these Trump employees having it both ways.
Have some goddamn integrity. This bullshit is getting tiresome.

(7,627 posts)he had a long and illustrious carreer. He could retire, walk away from his job. I think hkm standing up to Trump and forcing him to fire him would have more impact than trying to stay and being overruled by political appointees.

(7,627 posts)even if not true. it would end up in court or Fauci would resign under pressure. Trump is not bothered by technicalities.

I'm listening to the health experts.

(65,340 posts)The President does, however, have the power to sideline Fauci, keeping him away from press briefings and media interviews -- as has happened in recent weeks, though Fauci has proven adept at pushing his message through different channels.

(17,425 posts)Dr, Fauci said that he could be playing pickup basketball with Chris Hayes by the third or fourth quarter of this year.
Either I heard that wrong, or he meant to say next year. "This year" does not jibe with the other statements he made during the interview, and we are already almost into the fourth quarter of this year.
LisaL
(44,973 posts)As for next year, we have no clue if any vaccine is going to provide effective immunity and how long this immunity is going to last. Covid itself likely doesn't provide long lasting immunity.

(44,973 posts)So far we don't know if they are going to have safe and effective vaccine.

(51,550 posts)But if Biden is elected, he can push each state to have a mask mandate, and he can order it on all federal property. If 90% of us wore masks, that would bring the pandemic under control in 6-12 weeks. Even without a vaccine.

(6,414 posts)And until there is reason not to, you SHOULD trust the FDA approval process.
Hell, the FDA cant even approve a vaccine until its submitted for approval. So its not even up to the FDA until that happens.

(83 posts)Under Hahn's "leadership, " he's already proven who he is loyal to, and it's not the American people.

(6,414 posts)It's done under the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research at the FDA, which is led by Peter Marks.
Marks told Reuters he has not faced any political pressure and that the FDA would be guided by science alone. Should that change, I could not stand by and see something that was unsafe or ineffective that was being put through, Marks said.
You have to decide where your red line is, and thats my red line, he said. I would feel obligated (to resign) because in doing so, I would indicate to the American public that theres something wrong.

And as I said, it's not even up to the FDA until its submitted for approval.
Basically Trump is trying to have this fantasy where he can get a vaccine approved early and ya'll are falling for it hook line and sinker.

(3,635 posts)and could rush or manipulate the trials to the get data they need that would help Trump get his October surprise.
Any vaccine approval released before the election is de facto political in nature and not to be trusted.
If these companies and gov't agencies care so much about the public buying into the vaccine (and vaccination) they would wait until after the election to do any approval.

(9,954 posts)...it is disappointing to see him pass on disclosing some information. He could tell us what he really thinks about Crooked Donald, and resign... but it's still good he has his regular job and can blow the whistle if they try to push something that is not safe.

(3,635 posts)who 'the Resistance' views as some type of savior but is just another establishment white guy who wants to keep his spot at the country club - fuck him.
A true patriot would come out and condemn Trump and Hahn's attempts to politicize the FDA and the CDC, and should denounce the release of any vaccine before Election Day as it would be viewed as a political stunt and thus distrusted by half of the electorate.
