(12,654 posts)911 plus a few other major network comms down on a relatively quiet night (protest/politically wise) is a bit -suspicious. There are the usual suspects to consider....
Or it might just be Centurylink again. Privatized government services suck worse than anything a bureaucracy can f'up.
Election night is going to suck...

According to CNN, Microsoft 365 is down but doesn't mention 911 service

(23,542 posts)It doesn't look like 911 is currently down nationwide or there would be more articles than the scattered things we are seeing.

(18,654 posts)I worked for a small telecom company some years ago. We uploaded 911 information but did not run our own 911. That was run by the major carriers, e.g. AT&T, Centurylink, Verizon...
While there isn't a "national" carrier, something that affects one or more of these large carriers could have widespread failures of the system

(7,510 posts)Although I'm not sure why an internet outage would affect 911 systems. If it does, they've screwed up the design.
However, there may be a common cause such as a backhoe fade on a major fiber route.

Law enforcement agencies across the country reported outages of their 911 systems Monday night, and it was not immediately clear if there was a connection with a major Microsoft system outage.
Law enforcement agencies around the country, from Nevada to Pennsylvania and Arizona to Minnesota, tweeted that their 911 systems were down beginning sometime after 7 p.m. ET.
By 8:15 p.m., some departments were reporting that their services had come back online. Others were still recommending that people call local department numbers instead of the emergency line.
