Some of the other more plausible reasons fitting his pattern to date are:
He's looking for a quick out from the remaining debates.
He wants to fake his way to a great victory over the virus proving his virility, winning accolades, and possibly re-election.
He wants to fake his death clearing his debts and scoot off-shore somewhere.
He wants to pull an ENRON.
& so on.
Somebody should throw this thing on one of the odds sites to put weights on these things.
A combination of any of those, even.
